Trailer: Vivek Oberoi-starrer ‘Inside Edge’ exposes murky side of league cricket
After producing hits like ‘Don’, ‘Lakshya’, ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ etc., Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidwani’s Excel Entertainment have ventured into web series and will be making its debut in the zone with India’s first Amazon Original web series titled ‘Inside Edge’.
The series in collaboration with Amazon Prime Video, reveals the dark side of cricket where the gentleman’s game is ruled by ‘politics, sex, greed, money, power, drugs, glamour’, according to the trailer.
‘Inside Edge’ is the story of the Mumbai Mavericks, a T20 cricket franchise playing in the Powerplay League, and the tagline reads, ‘Witness the game behind the game’. It stars Richa Chadha as a film actress and owner of Mumbai Mavericks team who must find a financial partner to keep her team afloat. She vows to do everything in her power to protect it. Angad Bedi plays the captain of a team who isn’t happy playing for politicians, bureaucrats and film stars, while Tanuj Virwani, the star player of the team finds it fair to play for whoever gives the money. Sanjay Suri is seen in the role of a firm coach.
The stylishly suited up Vivek Oberoi is tagged ‘the mastermind’ who wants to change the game. He apparently is the organiser of the tournament.
‘Inside Edge’ is not about the game of cricket, but is about the murky underbelly of the game and is set in a landscape of conflicting interests, where selfishness is almost a virtue, where sex, money, and power are mere means to an end.
Directed by Karan Anshuman, ‘Inside Edge’ also features Siddhanth Chaturvedi, Sayoni Gupta, Sarah Jane Dias and Amit Sial. The series will be launched in over 200 countries worldwide and will be available from July 10.
