‘Rangoon’ opens on average note, mints Rs. 6 cr

Rangoon’ starring Kangana Ranaut, Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan was high on expectations, but opened on a slow note and did average business on its opening day in theatres. According to early estimates, ‘Rangoon’ collected about Rs. 6.75 crore.

The movie released on the occasion of Mahashivratri at around 1800 screens across the country and opened with an occupancy of 10-15 percent which rose to 20-25 percent by the night shows. The movie has been directed by Vishal Bharadwaj, who has given masterpieces like ‘Haider’ and ‘Omkara’, and is said to be his most expensive film till date, reportedly with a budget of Rs 80 crore.

‘Rangoon’ is primarily a love triangle between the three characters of Kangana, Saif and Shahid. It has received mixed response from critics and audience, and the actors have also given brilliant performance. It has generated a buzz which is likely to transform into better business at box-office.

Bollywood Life quoted trade expert Amul Mohan as saying, “‘Rangoon’ has got a slow start, but these kinds of movies pick up later. Generally, these kinds of films pick up more in the evening shows and I guess ‘Rangoon’ can make anywhere above Rs 6 crore."
