Box-office: Akshay Kumar’s ‘Jolly LLB 2’ crosses Rs 50 cr on 1st weekend

Akshay Kumar starrer film ‘Jolly LLB 2’ has done excellent performance during its opening weekend and has crossed the Rs. 50 crore mark. With the figure, the movie has overtaken the lifetime earnings of its prequel ‘Jolly LLB’ that featured Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani.

‘Jolly LLB 2’ opened on a good note on February 10 and collected Rs. 13.20 crore on its opening day. It saw a growth of 31.20 percent on its second day with a collection of Rs 17.31 crore, taking the two day total to Rs. 30.52 crore. Sunday’s business added another Rs. 19.95 crore, and the film’s opening weekend earnings stood at Rs 50.46 crore.

Noted Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the film’s collection by tweeting, “#JollyLLB2 has a TERRIFIC Sun. Goes from strength to strength. Fri 13.20 cr, Sat 17.31 cr, Sun 19.95 cr. Total: Rs. 50.46 cr. India biz.”

The first instalment of the movie which released in 2013 was made on a small budget of Rs 10 crore. It was a sleeper hit with lifetime collection of Rs 37 crore. The film also went on to win a National Award for Best Feature film in Hindi, while Saurabh Sukhla, who played the judge’s role also bagged a National Award.

‘Jolly LLB 2’, directed by Subhash Kapoor is courtroom satire about the conditions of the Indian courts. It is based on the same template as its prequel, and is equally hard-hitting and funny. The movie also features Anu Kapoor and Huma Qureshi, while only Saurabh Shukla reprised his role in the sequel.

The movie also became the second highest opener of 2017, after ‘Raees’ and has also surpassed the opening day collection of ‘Kaabil’. It has been made on a budget of around Rs. 45 crore and it has already recovered the amount, thus making it a profitable venture.

With good content and positive word-of-mouth, ‘Jolly LLB 2’ is expected to remain steady on its weekdays.
